Bringing Archives to Life, part two

| August 20, 2014

This sketch (artist unknown) comes from the Dow Collection, a collection of works rendered by Teachers College students studying under Professor Dow in the period 1905 to 1923. It appears on a board which seems to have been recycled from another work – the back shows remnants of glue and paper scraps of formerly attached works.

Its simple composition easily lends itself to the kinds of library hacks the Smithsonian is creating. In fact, much of the Dow Collection embodies a strong graphic style that would work well for similar hacks!

And don’t forget to check out the current exhibition in the Gottesman Libraries’ 3rd floor gallery, featuring selected works from the Dow Collection, before it ends August 31st.
